Our District-Wide Reading Challenge
Begins September 2025 and ends May 2026
RECOGNIZING EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION
Research informs us that students learn to read best when receiving daily explicit and systematic phonics instruction from their teachers. We encourage teachers to conduct daily group lessons 4-5 days a week, each lasting about 10-15 minutes.
The CAPIT Reading Challenge recognizes teachers who teach their students phonics explicitly and systematically daily using their CAPIT Teacher Profile.
ENCOURAGING DILIGENT STUDENT LEARNING
To make steady gains in early literacy, students must practice foundational reading skills 4-5 days a week for 5-10 minutes while teachers monitor, offer support and encouragement, and challenge students with pointed questions.
The CAPIT Reading Challenge recognizes classes with regular and consistent student learning. CLICK HERE to learn how to monitor student practice.
Monthly Champion
Monthly winners will receive CAPIT stickers and certificates for all students. We will begin announcing Monthly Champions in October 2025.
End-of-Year Champion
End-of-Year winners will receive a CAPIT T-Shirt + Certificates for all students. We will announce the End-of-Year Champions in May 2026.
